Solving a continuous periodic review inventory-location allocation problem in vendor-buyer supply chain under uncertainty

In this work, a mixed-integer binary non-linear two-echelon inventory problem is formulated for a vendor-buyer supply chain network in which lead times are constant and the demands of buyers follow a normal distribution. In this formulation, the problem is a combination of an (r, Q) and periodic review policies based on which an order of size Q is placed by a buyer in each fixed period once his/her on hand inventory reaches the reorder point r in that period. Fabrication of a Silicide Thermoelectric Module Employing Fractional Factorial Design Principles

AbstractThermoelectric modules can be used in waste heat harvesting, sensing, and cooling applications. Here, we report on the fabrication and performance of a four-leg module based on abundant silicide materials. While previously optimized Mg2Si0.3Sn0.675Bi0.025 is used as the n-type leg, we employ a fractional factorial design based on the Taguchi methods mapping out a four-dimensional parameter space among Mnx-εMoεSi1.75−δGeδ higher manganese silicide compositions for the p-type material. An effort is made in this work to appraise the surface characteristics of machined expandable polystyrene (EPS) with a novel 3D printed thermoplastic acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) tool. Linear grooves on EPS were made on a vertical milling machine that was modified to conduct experiments in the laboratory. Experimental research regarding the study of surface quality of aluminum alloys processed through milling

The aim of this paper is to present the necessary steps to conduct a design of experiment with application on the aluminum alloy surface quality obtained by end-milling process. The machined surface quality is influenced by the cutting process parameters, and especially by their variation. The research methods used in this paper are the Taguchi method - to determine the cutting parameters influence, on the surface quality, and the full factorial design of experiment to confirm the results obtained by Taguchi’s method and to determine the percentage of the parameters influence involved in the process.

General Economic Order Quantity Model for Lot Sizing with Quality Loss and Process Analysis

In this paper a new model GEOQ is proposed to decide the optimal lot sizing in production. The GEOQ modifies the classical EOQ method in several aspects. First it considers that there is always a probability that the production goes out-of-control; then it takes the time the process goes out-of-control as a stochastic quantity; and finally it adds quality loss to the economic models. The quality loss is calculated according to Taguchi’s quadratic loss function. and depends on the process failure models. Therefore, the optimal lot sizing is decided not only by the set-up cost and the holding cost but also by the quality loss during the manufacturing process.

Electrical and thermomechanical properties of CVI- Si3N4 porous rice husk ash infiltrated by Al-Mg-Si alloys

Abstract The effect of following processing parameters on the electrical and thermomechanical properties of Al/Si3N4 deposited silica composites was investigated using the Taguchi method and analysis of variance (ANOVA): infiltration temperature and time, atmosphere, effect of Si3N4 coating, porosity content in the preforms, and magnesium content in the alloy. The contributions of each of the parameters to modulus of elasticity, electrical resistivity, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and thermal diffusivity of the resulting composites were determined.
